The Sewcial Club is a new Patreon tier to connect with wardrobe DIYers. 🪡
It's $5 USD a month and not only supports me and MGC, but you'll get access to a monthly "let's sew" live chat where we can work on our projects together, as well as a private community board.

I'm so excited for this new group and can't wait to see what everyone creates! 💕
If you told me a year ago my favourite dress would If you told me a year ago my favourite dress would be made out of sweatshirt material I wouldn't have believed you. 🙈
.
While I'm definitely down for comfy, loungewear, I've also been feeling pretty uninspired lately with my rotation of sweatpant and legging outfits. So when I saw this @tonledesign dress I thought it could be the perfect marriage of loungewear and a cute/fun style, and it did not disappoint.
.
The sweat fleece is so soft, the colour is beautiful, and the denser material gives it a gorgeous A-line shape. It's both super comfy and also really nice to wear something that feels more dressed up!
.
How are you all feeling with your wardrobe these days - enjoying the simplicity and comfort? Missing dressing up? Or both?
.
.
(Disclosure: This dress was gifted as part of a collaboration with Tonle however this post is not sponsored, I just really love the dress and wanted to share how it's brightened up my wardrobe)

Over on the channel is a new video aaall about clothing rentals and includes my thoughts on the sustainability debate.

You can also find the video on my blog along with a list of some different rental services if you want to check out some options.
Did you know that 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 1% of materials used in clothing production will actually end up recycled into new clothes?
.
Fashion's massive waste problem needs to be addressed now and fast fashion "recycling programs" are not the solution.
.
Just as a tiny peek into the waste issue, this photo is from @fab_scrap a couple years ago - all this is only PRE-production textile waste (so not even scraps from cutting) from NYC brands over a short time. 😮
I can't even image what the whole industry's waste looks like.
.
One thing that's encouraging though is there are sustainable brands working to address some of these problems by rescuing materials, recycling garments, and turning some of this textile "waste" into beautiful pieces!
.
Over on the blog is a new roundup with over 20 zero waste, circular, or upcycling fashion brands. ♻️
.
These brands are not only worth supporting because waste reduction is much needed in the fashion industry, but also since many of the brands are working with small quantities of materials it means you can get truly unique, limited edition, and special pieces for your wardrobe. 😊
So uh… that "semi-permanent" henna dye I used is So uh... that "semi-permanent" henna dye I used is definitely not semi-permanent. 😅
.
Some of you warned me in the comments of my hair dyeing video, so it's not really a surprise now, but I was initially not at all planning on it being permanent. Should have done my research 🧐 - it's apparently more of a semi-permanent dye on dark hair.
.
I do like the red though! It was very serendipitous. I'll probably do another application soon to brighten the colour up again and dye my roots. But it looks like I'll be a redhead for a while ❤️
These are our veggie scraps from just half a week! These are our veggie scraps from just half a week! We now have a yard and compost them at home, but for a long time we lived in apartments and I was never really sure what was best to do with them.
.
While in apartments we used to (luckily!) take advantage of community garden or other people's composts, or city green bins, but I really wish I had explored home composting more. It's not at all as difficult or intimidating as I used to think, and it's a fantastic way to cut down your waste and impact!
.
New on the blog is a post from contributing writer (and trained composting educator!) Christina @99fearstreet all about how to compost in apartments and spaces without a yard. She guides you through the different composting systems to figure out what might work best for you and how to get started!
.
Do you compost at home?
And I'd especially love to know what you do if you're in an apartment!
Between missing friends and family, lack of sleep Between missing friends and family, lack of sleep (insomnia + a baby is not a great combo), and it being insanely cold (we currently have a polar vortex coming though and it's dropping down to almost -40 here tonight 🥶). I've been feeling especially drained and unmotivated.
.
This is why I haven't been posting much lately and am also late with some things I wanted to have launched by February (including something fun for fellow sewers 😉).
.
I'm sharing this though because when you're in a rut it's so easy to also feel a lot of guilt, especially seeing how productive or how much fun others seem to be having on social media.
But I'm always comforted with the reminder that we only see the highlight reel of people's lives and many others are likely in a similar boat.
.
So here is that reminder if you also need it right now. 💕
My cloth diapering and EC (elimination communicati My cloth diapering and EC (elimination communication) video is finally up on the channel for those of you with questions about it!
The coldest month has been a lot more enjoyable wi The coldest month has been a lot more enjoyable with this little snow-loving bean. ☃️
.
And I want to thank @myssyfarmi for sending this adorable matching hat for B. 😊 We love their wool hats (my husband has one too) and I'm happy to see there's plenty of room for growth with the kids styles!
.
I think it's really cool how Myssy has built a brand around local and community-focused production - using locally-farmed, organic wool, spun in some of the last spinning mills in Finland, dyed in-house, and knit by grannies from the community.
.
I often use them as an example that it IS possible to revive the local textile craft and production that many western places have lost. And I think we're seeing the start of movements like this in many places, with things like @fibershed_ communities popping up. 💚
